Serena in "Aida."
Serena's famous performance in the NYC Aida opera
Aïda, is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni, based on a scenario often attributed to French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette, although Verdi biographer Mary Jane Phillips-Matz has argued that the scenario was actually written by Temistocle Solera.
The Golden Age of the Dance
By Rip Wilson
Ahhh, the memories of the golden Age of the dance in New York's Greektown. the Port Said, Ali Baba, Arabian Nights, and all the great clubs that lined Eighth Avenue and of course, the Egyptian Gardens where Serena Performed!
music echoed into the street- Turkish, Armenian, Greek, Lebanese - and fans scrambled from club to club to see their favorite dancers and thrill to the music of the oud, bouzouki, kanun, and the soulful wail of the clarinet. the music was so exciting and emotional then, and it was such a magical part of the dance!
